- Longer edurance: Eating healthy, avoiding sugar, and exercising helps to prevent your blood sugar levels from spiking, which causes that mid-day crash we are all too familiar with. More energy means a better ability to work.
- Focus: Your mind and body are very much intertwined. Proper eating and fitness can help in two ways. It prevents a lot of health problems that can distract from work and second, it can help your attention span, chemical balance, and numerous other physiological aspects.
- Confidence: It is obvious that looking good impacts not only your confidence, but other people’s confidence in you. We look to celebrities, athletes, models, and other that exemplify beatuy which also connects to success. No matter how vain that can be, it is true. It impacts getting a job, hiring successful people, getting raises and promotions in the start-up/corporate world.
- Long-term health: So many people work hard on their business only to end up finding success in their 50’s or 60’s, but are a step away from a heart attack, cancer, diabetes, or other diseases. There is no point to gain financial success only to not have a body to celebrate your success with.
This is why companies spend millions and billions of dollars on the health of their employees to stop health insurance costs, lack of performance, and overall employee satisfaction.
- Health programs dropped absenteeism by 15% at Johnson & Johnson.
- The annual turnover rate for wellness program participants of the Canada Life Assurance company of Toronto was 1.8 % , compared to the company wide average of 18 % according to the American Journal of Health Promotion.
- A NASA study reported a 12.5 % increase in productivity in their fitness program participants versus non participants along with an increase in morale according to The Association for Fitness in Business.
- There are over 300 other documented examples in mostly US companies showing these types of positive results with benefits outweighing costs 3-1 in HR Magazine.
Time Management
- One of the most important things you can do is to prioritize your day. Lack of daily planning leads to a lot of wasted time.
- Start putting the important or harder items toward the start of the day. If you are having trouble getting in cardio or pressing items for your business like sales calls or link building, then get it done right when you wake up in the morning.
- Start your day early. Most of the successful people I know get up early. Set a goal to get up at 6am if you can. If you work night shifts, then set an equivalent time to get up “early” for you.
- Make sure that you are still getting at least 6 and preferably 8 hours of sleep a day. Enough sleep makes your day exponentially more effective.
- Start your day with exercise. Not only does it provide a better physical health, but it actually creates more time. You are less sleepy, more motivated, and more alert to what is going on around you.
What in your life is detriment to your goals and dreams? What is actually helping you to get there? Sometimes the most detrimental things aren’t always the most malicious actions. They can be things that seem harmless or even things we enjoy dearly.
One of the most common time killers is television. An American watches on average 4 hours of day or 28 hours a week. That is over 1,400 hours a year and over 100,000 hours in a lifetime.
That is a lot of time just staring at a box.
Now I agree we can learn a lot from television, but the History channel never gets the highest ratings. Most people use those hours to get away and almost go into a trance.
Think of what you can do with those 4 hours a day of TV when you only need about an hour for exercise or an hour focused on an Internet Business.
Now most of you I know have terribly busy lives. I feel for you because you have so many priorities that you need to attend to like putting food on the table and taking care of your family. Often there are chores or responsibilities you have consistently that you feel obligated to do like dishes, mowing the lawn, or walking the dog. Let me introduce you to a concept that I love: delegation.
Delegating
Find other people that can do this. Often you can pay people very cheap money and have them do it for you. In a rough economy there are plenty of people looking for work for cheap. Famous people don’t spend much time mowing lawns or doing the laundry. They became successful because they spent a lot of time building several very specific skills. You just have to do the same.
